My bike was stolen this weekend. The padlock was in good working order and was kept tight. The thief had to devalue my bike to get my bike. I was lucky that the police caught my bike thief and I got it back. The lock was tight and even though the guy broke the lock so I couldn't get it off my bike, it took a while for the police and after a while and the new proper tools and levers can break the lock. The lock on the bike flagged the cop when the guy was stopped for something else. You can see in the photos that this lock has taken a lot of time. I was planning to buy a stiffer lock, but I'm very happy with this because without it I wouldn't have my bike.

Some crook tried to steal my bike while I was at work. Tried cutting through the cable and no success. Then they followed the U-Lock part and left almost no mark. They couldn't get a part of my bike, so they got angry and stole the cheap saddle. I hope they think it is worth it! I think this lock, at least.

I think that this lock is very lightweight compared to other locks. This lock is absolutely theft proof and I feel comfortable leaving my bike anywhere now as long as I have this lock. The added cable comes in handy when I need to lock against large trees or bigger poles. The cable is extremely strong but also very flexible so you can wrap it around anything. The key that comes with it is durable, and easy to add to a keychain so you will never lose it. It is sturdy and well designed. I would recommend this to everyone. If you are thinking about buying a lock, this is worth every single penny and you will not be disappointed! I was debating this product over another one and am SO happy I went with the Via Velo lock! Absolutely would buy again for others in my family. LOVE this product.

There is no bike lock in the world that can't be defeated in less than a minute with the right tools. All you can really hope for is to make your bike harder to get to than the one next to you. If you use this lock properly with the u-bolt around the rack, through the frame and the rear wheel, and the cable through the front wheel, this will definitely make a would-be thief pause and look for an easier grab. The u-bolt is quite solid and the lock mechanism engages both ends of the bolt. The cable is big enough that it would take some larger cable cutters to get through it.

There seem to be ways for an experienced thief to beat all but the most expensive locks and chains if time permits. As long as you can be close enough to hear this lock when someone installs it, you should be fine.
