I bought this for my little brother's 19th birthday-he loves these complex, intricate trinkets. He had it built and functioning beautifully within a day, but he's that kind of stubborn, determined, perfectionist guy. Overall, I'd say if you have the experience, or if you're simply willing to learn and be patient and careful, this is an excellent kit to buy. Highly recommended!

Most of the laser cut pieces came out of the trees pretty well. I had one part where the plywood separated while removing from the tree but not critical. The decorative wrapper on the horn on page 25 part J1 is very fragile, it came with two (one extra) both broke and I had to use CA cement to attach....no big deal tho. Assembly was fairly easy but I would not recommend this kit for beginners, build some other ROKR or similar kits first. Total construction time about 10 hours taking my time.

Playing the included record was fairly good, a bit worbly. The USB connection is only for amplification of the sound, it does not power the "motor" as it seems to show in the video.

It was so rewarding to hear the sounds, even if they were very screechy and hurt my ears! It was worth it. I spent about two days building this, and it was really fun to get my mind off work and school and focus on something else. It's incredibly intricate and was absolutely amazing to put together. I wouldn't get this for anyone under the age of 13, it would just be too much of a challenge. The instructions were very clear, and it came with plenty of spares, so if you break something along the way, you're sure to find a replacement. Keep some superglue handy though, just in case.

Love the complexity of the builds but not so much how some of the pieces nearly break before you can get them off the board. And if they do break, got to break out the super glue to put the piece back together before you can use them. I haven't had to much trouble but my daughter has. Most times it's because the cuts were/are bad cuts and the piece just doesn't want to come out.

I would gift this to someone else who knows how to work with Balsamwood. Or I am just someone who gets grimlins with mine when I get them.

The smaller builds are perfect to have some peace and quiet in the house for kids...until they need help.
