This donut maker is stainless steel on the bottom so you can place the gadget IN the hot oil. It does need a locking washer bc we kept having to tighten the thing on the bottom bc it came loose multiple times while making the donuts resulting in lop sided donuts but no biggie will grab one at the hardware store! Easy to take apart and clean. Tweaking the recipe just a bit by adding a tiny bit more sugar and a tiny bit less yeast. Cooking donuts at 425 degrees F.....edit....just broke it! Do not over tighten that piece I spoke of earlier. Would still buy again. Still works do not overtighten

This product is a little smaller than I would like, but a larger one was not appropriate due to expense, as I am just starting out with learning the art of making donuts. It cleans easily, and the directions were clear. It came with lots of recipes, but I've yet to find one that is the right consistency for the best quality donuts. The one that came with the book is too thick to drop easily from the donut maker, and if you add liquid to get it thin enough to drop, then it's TOO thin and you get weird shaped donuts. I'll just keep trying......

So I loved the product. I thought it was a lot of fun and easy to use. Two things I think made it work well. Let the dough rest for 30+ to thicken up. I also think chilling the dough a bit helps. I fried these donuts outside in MN on a mild January day and I think it inadvertently chilled the dough and helped them form.
