Yes, you need a compressor or a helium tank, you can not use lung power to inflate. On purchase the balloons are small, around 5-6" across, but they expand to about 20". I had no problem blowing up with a tank, I twisted the balloon around the inflater tube with just the tip inside the balloon. Super easy. Then to tie, just twist and twist and knot. I had no leakage prob after blowing up. Then, to get the wire on the balloon (think of wrapping a gift with ribbon) wrap the end around the knot, then go over the top and back to the knot. Loop it there then over again and end at the knot. Let extra dangle. They definitely float with helium, but the battery will tether it. I put on a table. Love, love.

If you are looking for an impressive and unique addition to a special occasion buy this product. Super impressed with the outcome. My granddaughter delivered flowers with these balloons to her Mom at work on Valentine's Day. As she walked into the restaurant EVERYONE she passed was whispering to their date "look at that balloon", "that is beautiful" and "I've never seen anything like that". I was worried about wrapping the lights around the balloon but it was really easy. Plan on buying a helium tank, I couldn't find a store to inflate the balloons for me. I was thankful in the end because now I can blow up more balloons whenever I wish. And yes the balloons are reusable so you get along of bang for your buck!

I like the appearance of these balloons, and I like LED as well. I use hand-held balloon pumps, which are easy to inflate, and when inflated, reach 18 feet or more. They look environmentally friendly and have no odor. It brought me great happiness to my birthday party yesterday, and I will buy it again next year!

Easy to inflate. Way more value for the money. These are gorgeous and easy to assemble, I used a tire pump, and you will have to stretch them out in all directions prior to inflation. And the string lights wrap around the balloon, no taping required. I hung them from the ceiling with fishing line and clear tacks. So stunning and worth the effort. I blew them up December 11th, and they are still perfectly inflated today December 23rd. I will absolutely be buying more.

Great material, sort easy to inflate. Would recommend using a machine, i inflated one to its max until it popped so I can see hire big they can very and it inflated to about 16 inches. I would recommend buying the clips to fasten the ends making a knot is hard and can deflate and hard to undo.
