This tool is not used to do an alignment. This tool is used to set camber back to the same place it was after you remove or replace a strut. Some struts are adjustable and have an oblong hole in them. This is used to make a camber adjustment by moving the strut in or out slightly and tightening the bolts back up. Camber is how much the top of the tire tilts in or out and is measured in degrees. When camber is changed it also changes toe. Toe is how much the tires point in or out as viewed from above. If toe is out just a little bit it can wear the inside or outside edge of your tires relatively quickly. I use this tool when I replace struts. If you don't, it is a pain in the ass to adjust camber with the tire on and the alignment machine installed on the rim. The two large strut alignment bolts are next to impossible to reach and adjust to the proper position because the tire is in the way.

Nice, solid product. I used it in lieu of paying for an alignment as I only needed to adjust camber angle. My tires were wearing on the outside corners - had positive camber. Bought vehicle used. Apparently, previous alignment shop failed to tighten the camber bolts and they backed off the cam. Buying this was cheaper than a alignment; and they want to also charge me to rebuild my front-end for a grand plus.

Even with my car's non-flat surfaced wheels, requiring the need to jack the front end up and down several times for frequent tire removing, measuring and adjusting, I was able to successfully align the camber (approx. neg. 1/2 degree - not verified by a reputable shop) on my car's front wheels evenly, by sticking the tool on the brake rotors, while the car was off the ground (wheels off), then remeasuring while back on the ground (wheels on - tool on steel rule over rim's center), and making corrective allowances for other suspension and alignment (toe-in/out) considerations and adjustments. Again, it took a few attempts and a little time, but still spared me the uncertainties and costs associated with possible unscrupulous shops. The tool seems excellent for the price and likely accurate enough for my needs (I'll monitor the tire wear), even if it gets used this once.

What I liked most was the precision of the gauge and the packaging. My problem was that I had to improvise a level place on my 1941 chevrolet for the gauge to read correctly. Secondly there were no instructions on how to use the gauge. Some online research taught me what the knob on the bottom was for. After that I was able to set camber very closely as checked by a computer machine.

ive seen people use these to just measure the camber on their car and it wont work for that. this is for adjustments. you need to measure your camber ...More
ive seen people use these to just measure the camber on their car and it wont work for that. this is for adjustments. you need to measure your camber with an alignment machine, then use this to measure the baseline and adjust to spec. im sure theres videos online, but you cannot just put this on your rotor and mesure camber IT WILL NOT WORK and i see people do it all the time. use it properly, and it is a very handy tool for when your alignment machine doesnt do jacking compensation with the wheels off the car.
