You need a clear path to use to pull through cables, the magnet is strong and I was successful in what I wanted to do.
I have previously used electrician rods when fishing through cables.
Its worth keeping in your tool box, a couple of gripes I would have likes a better-quality box to store it in, the box did arrive a bit tatty
I would also have liked a smaller bait magnet, although the two supplied worked for me

Going horizontally beyond beams is not possible unless using specialised equipment. Routing across floors is not possible behind plasterboard due to joists at floor and ceiling level.
The magnetic disc is strong and stays in contact through plasterboard. New builds lack any sort of insulation right behind plaster boards making it easy to use this sort of tool.
I got some socket levels raised so it was easy pulling initial cables tied to the nylon rope.
