Diatom Earth Japanese Bath Mat

Available in three natural colors, using Diatomaceous Earth (DE) from Ishikawa and Akita Prefectures, the Diatom Earth Japanese Bath Mat absorbs water instantly, leaving your feet dry, clean and free from bacteria that traditional bath mats harbor.

This bath mat is entirely natural, with nothing else added and does not require any washing. It’s simply harvested and molded, using craftsmen’s trowels.

Diatomaceous soil is made from tiny, fossilized water plants that existed in the prehistoric period so when you dry your feet, you’ll be standing on thousands of years of Earth’s history!

The secret to the mat’s moisture-wicking quality lies in the millions of naturally occurring, microscopic holes which make it incredibly porous and deodorizing. The tiny particles in the diatomite soil allow water to evaporate quickly in natural air, eliminating the safe haven for mold, mildew, and bacteria.

I was a bit skeptical with this but absolutely love it. I hate how gross traditional bath mats can get and need washed often which severally limits their life. This absorbs so much water which is great since my daughter basically jumps directly out of the shower with no towel and drenches the floor. Drives me crazy but now don't have to worry about it with this. It also stays put when my cats decide to practice drifting in the bathroom in the middle of the night and leave the rug a wadded up mess.

I was so surprised when I received this bath mat. I didn't look at the description very close and thought I was ordering a rug but to my surprise I received this solid "board". IT IS SO COOL!! I wiped it off with a damp rag upon receipt and played with it for at least 15 minutes. It wicks the water away from the surface instantly and it so cool to watch. I gave it to my son to use since he never seems to be able to keep a rug next to the bathtub and he loves it too. I will be ordering another one soon!!

Had this waaaay over half a year. It did not curl up. The mat feels like it’s made of clay type texture and it’s hard like piece of concrete. Took a while to adjust to the hard pavement feel since I’m used to a soft rug or towel on the floor. But it does dry up fairly quickly! In fact I bought 2 for both my bathrooms! It does keep my floors dry! Edit: I think it’s been over a year now. Still didn’t curl up at all. Not one bit. Still looks the same as when we first got it. Still keeps floor dry!

It is a hard surface, so you have to remember not to slam down fragile dishes. But I got into the swing of that soon. The water really does disappear quickly and it's a good bit larger than a regular mat. I got it because water gets through ordinary mats and can eventually gunk up the counter. That doesn't happen with this. If you happen to set, say, something that leaves a coffee ring like I did, just take a brush dish scrubber to it. I wouldn't let a stain set in, although I'm sure you could use a oxygen bleach solution. But generally, we're just talking about water on it.

Really great investment. 40 seconds and the mat absorbs fast almost back to the original dry gray! First wipe was a lot of dark gray dust and it stained my microfiber cloth so beware and use something dark. The only concern I have is that when you're not on it directly the whole thing doesn't really have a grip on the ground and I don't know if it would worsen the risk of slipping but it definitely wouldn't help you if you were falling or slipping. Amazing and very cool.

I was hesitant on buying because I was thinking it would be one of those things that I would stub a toe on every time I walked in the bathroom. To my surprise, it doesn't happen. It's beveled on the edges, it's smooth and comfortable. It dries really quick and very easy to clean. I can't stand walking through a bathroom and my feet get wet from the floor mat. It doesn't happen with this mat.
